Street Legal Customs is the culmination of a lifelong dream for father-and-son team Jay and Ben Kalish. Together, Jay and Ben envisioned an establishment that was centrally located in Metropolitan Detroit and geared to the automotive enthusiast who has the vision & passion, but not the time or experience required to make their customizing dreams a reality.

Even in its earliest stages of planning, owner Ben Kalish always knew that historic Woodward Avenue was the ideal setting for the shop. Street Legal Customs officially opened its doors in June 2006 as a virtually unknown car customizing shop. In short order, Jay and Ben Kalish have established a loyal core of regular customers and have created some of the most innovative and exciting vehicles on the road today.
Street Legal Customs today stands alone as Metro Detroit’s only high performance / custom car shop located on the most famous roadway in the region, Woodward Avenue.
